Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

Do you have any experience of placing two conventional X2 caps in parallel like the unconventional Auricap Twe

I never did that tweak. It's two .47's from hot to neutral as I remember. They were rated at 630V but were not safety caps. They are also polarity marked but only for "best" performance and will work connected either way. I use Auricaps as an upgrade on the Detail Magnifier now. Safety caps supposedly have a construction that can handle line exposure and voltage spikes better. Either an X or Y type would do when going from hot to neutral.

Al's parallel filter was more complex and has four R/C/R strings with different a cap and resistor values in each string. He also then made a version with a resistor/inductor string from neutral to safety ground.

Parallel filters don't suffer from the drawbacks of a series filter but have their weakness too like most things there are pluses and minuses. There's a schematic on my site and prebuilt boards in the trader here with the inductor string. Sorry if that's an ad just trying to give you the most info.
