Bare.
I think it is more a case that many of them are ‘unaware’ of such adverse effects.

Yes, and this is a major problem for manufacturers of ALL audio equipment – not just speaker manufacturers.
Let me explain further.
A manufacturer of ANY audio equipment is completely at the mercy of the expertise and awareness of audio retailers, their showrooms and listening rooms. For example. The sound of such as a Joe Bloggs amplifier can be completely different (and not as good as it should sound) when demonstrated in a retailer’s listening room which has numerous passive speakers etc dotted around the listening room. Whereas when demonstrated in another retailer’s listening environment where the retailer is knowledgeable regarding what can affect the sound, and who has no passive speakers in his dem room, the sound of the same amplifier will sound so much better.
