Isn't soaking essentially the same or quite similar to immersion?
No....immersion describes allowing the materials to "soak" in the liquid. The "soak", the term of art as used by Cryogenics International, is allowing the materials to reside in the gaseous exchange at the lowest depth of the chamber, which is also the coldest region and lowest temperature (-320F) achievable by the LN2.
The "soak" also refers to the time period of the process where the materials are being subjected to that lowest temperature (at least 24 hours), i.e., descent, soak, and rise.
