RE: "how much should you use? :-))"..

There's a good question, Andyr! I used a 54,000 µF cap, simply because I had one, and heard the improvement.

I've also tried a 60 µF ASC film cap, and didn't hear much improvement. This may be do to the condition of my batteries, two large motorcycle batteries, wired in series. They are used, and while they will both charge up to full voltage (12.8 V), neither have the ability to produce the current necessary to start a large Harley. They seem to be able to run a phono stage with a quiescent current draw of 21mA quite well.

And as I said in my post on Vinyl, any issue of noise from the batteries seems to have been rendered meaningless by the addition of the Belleson SuperPower regulator. I can no longer hear any improvement when I add the 54,000 µF cap across the batteries, since installing the Belleson inside the Graham Slee.

Perhaps you might consider a newly designed power supply, rather than looking for something better than the BD139. You already have the transformer. Switch to a couple of Cree diodes, one or more capacitors a Belleson SuperPower and you're done.

Good luck, and keep us posted.
