speaker stands build ?

Hi,

Tried this weeks ago on another page, but since it's basically a DIY question, maybe I should have posted it here.
Thinking to build some speaker stands for a vintage pair of Stephens Trusonic (basically quasi Jbl 3ways) that I'm using.
Done my time with low-efficiency/ high-rigidity minimonitors, and the lead-filled kinds of stands that go with those....

But these got me thinking about what Spkr Stands do, besides placement --- these are pretty efficient, maybe 92-4dBw, but built rather casually as regards resonance. They're wide-faced, they make a nice, woody sounding musical box; kind of the opposite of hi-rez modern columns or monitors. They're on a narrow-board maple upstairs floor. Area rugs only.

There's plenty of highs, mids, though maybe a muddle of over-available lows. On recordings that accentuate this, they're chesty and boomy. I'm not after super volumes, but would like to have the overhead (driving them with ss 120 watts, so room to go...) and have it feel clean.

We're looking at 12-14" height so very modest little structures (thinking of sound-anchor or harbeth type risers, maybe..)

Questions:
Are stands for these meant to iso the box or conduct/ channel the resonance downwards to the floor ?
What material -- wood, steel, aluminum, other, would suit them ? Does adding mass matter in a stand for a resonant system like these ?
What guidelines in general would be advised ?
How should they match to the floor, couple or decouple ? Would a square of carpet under each stand be a thought ?

I can basically do anything within reason, this is a dedicated upstairs study with sound system. For some reason it seems like broad 'pads' of slate or concrete, say 2'x 2', might be good under stands to counter the relative flex of the flooring ?

Any ideas a plus. (Oh, and yes, planning on more stuffed furniture + carpet + wall coverings. But looking to build stands, mainly.)
thanks
