Eigenmodes are nodal patterns which can develop on any surface when excited. This is a video of a flat plate being excited at different frequencies and the patterns which develop. Being symmetrical, the patterns are also symmetrical and quite striking.Such patterns also develop on speaker cones, cabinets, and other parts of audio components and other components in your listening room, including window panes and such (easy explanation for the tape on the window trick). The tape will break up certain modal nodes.

- I certainly do not place it perfectly centered ... and my guess is that it breaks up the patterns even more .. - andyr 20:58:12 06/19/14 (1)
