RE: Audience Adept Response AR6-T Power Conditioner

I had an aR12 but had to sell it. I was using a PurePower 1050 before that, and was able to demo the aR12 at home before buying. The Audience unit led to better sound than the PP 1050. It was not anything near a night/day difference, but the Audience unit gave things a greater sense of ease and air. It was a couple of months later that the Audience units' shortcoming was revealed to me and led eventually to getting rid of it. I have zoned HVAC systems in my house, and both units are heat pumps. Both units utilize scroll type compressors, and when either of those units kicked on, I'd get a very loud/nasty/startling zizz-pop from the system. Enough to make you jump out of your skin when it would happen. Worse in phono, somewhat less in line-level modes. When I auditioned the Audience it was during a time of year when I was not using either heat or AC so the problem did not manifest itself until things got warm enough for the AC to kick on. Turns out that heat pumps, particularly those with scroll type compressors, throw all sorts of nasty shit onto the mains when those compressors engage. The PP1050, because it is a regenerator and not just a passive filter like the Audience, was not letting any of that nastiness through to my system. The Audience was completely defenseless against the kind of electrical ugliness these compressors are capable of doling out. So, I was forced to sell it. I bought a new PP 1500+ and the problem troubles me no more. So, moral of the story ... if you have a heat pump, the Audience may not be the unit for you. Otherwise, I do not see how you could go wrong with the Audience. Great product, great design and great sound.
