Black Discus revisited

Got in a fair number of BDs. and have been experimenting.

I am amazed at the cumulative differences of placing more BD in your system.

They work well on my Quicksilver Mid Mono amps. Placing a pair on the exposed B+ electrolytic caps makes a noticable difference, more so than on the IEC inlets.

After contacting Bob, who assured me that drilling them wouldn't hurt, I drilled a small hole through the center, making placement of the smaller BD on input tubes easier (you know the 12AX7 types with the nipple on top). The blue tack supplied sort of melts with the heat of the tube, but drilling the hole anchors the disc without the need for Blue Tack.

Works well on the tops of all tubes, more so on the driver tubes of a tube amp. Seems the sonic differences on the amplifier tubes are greater than the preamp tubes. Works well on power tubes also....

I'm sure others will find other applications, BTW, so please chime in.

I do notice the BD takes about 10 minutes minimum to "break in" and even when moving from site to site often requires a break in time. Bass seems a bit more emphasized in the break in period and normal tonality resumes after the break in. Curiously, use of the piezo crystals on top of the BD further anhances the upper frequencies.

OF course YMMV
