Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I decided to upgrade two AC outlets that are used by my big screen HDTV/ home theater system & HD cable box. I got 2 Pass & Seymour 20A hospital outlets from a local lighting store, and 2 Amerelle non-magnetic outlet covers (Home Depot) that are cast metal, very thick and heavy. I used some Goop to glue two small strips of ERS paper to the inside of the cover plate at top & bottom, and used the Goop to glue a mix of crystals in vertical lines on the inside right & left of the outlet cover - green, pink & white tourmaline plus some purple amethyst. I cut a sheet of stiff carbon fiber to glue to the outside of the outlet cover, using an exacto knife to make cutouts for the receptacle. And used non-magnetic screws instead of the magnetic screws that came with the outlet cover. Total cost for two receptacles & 2 covers was about $52. I think the difference was immediate and pretty easy to see for me, increased clarity and edge detail and more vivid colors. I always thought blu ray had an edge over HDTV but not anymore. After watching a number of recent programs over again, I thinks its pretty clear there is a marked improvement, it was well worth it. The carbon fiber looks cool but cost $14. I had no patience to try upgrading everything separately and didn't want to spend all that time separately evaluating each, but the final outcome is great. It was a lot of fun and think its easy to see on video.
