I actually have one of these boxes as a gift from a person who was selling them locally.
The unit is called the COUNTERWAVE.
My VOM tells me that there are two fused banks worth of 100 uF capacitance, or maybe two discrete capacitors across each HOT to Neutral line.
The box is welded shut. Coming out are 4 wires:
HOT1
HOT2
Neutral
Protective Earth
Does it save energy, not much. Maybe they forgot to rub the Caps with snake Oil prior to sealing the unit.
Residential Power Factor correction is best for very large homes with lot's of fans, motors and inductively reactive loads.
Watts are watts, what happens on the Y axis of the Power Triangle has little or no effect on your utility bill.
The Power Company bills based on Kilowatt Hours and not the Magnitude of the vector resulting from the Watts and Vars (Reactive power.)
As far as Audio improvements, I did not notice any improvements when I had the unit connected.
