Screw it..I'll just forego the shunt and wire the two 10k pots direct. To do that, I just go center pin right RCA to input lug of right pot, center pin left RCA to input lug of left pot, output lugs of both pots to corresponding center pins of output RCAs, and all grounds tied together (pots and RCA jacks). Is that correct?

BTW Chris, thanks for your helpful and long response to my earlier query. I'm gathering that my resister value is wrong for what I'm trying to do, since the wiring appears to be correct....?
