there were some predictable formula for these issues. Unfortunately, there isn't any, and the ultimate, final test is *still* when you play your favorite tune via your own system in your room with your ears.

In general, I would like to dispel certain untruths about very exotic, expensive cables, caps, etc. None of them, however expensive, can ever improve a signal. The best of them damage the signal less.

Luckily, soldering is pretty easy, so rather than using a tech, I would say get a soldering iron and try various parts yourself at your leisure. That really is the only "regret proof" answer IMO.
