By pinouts in this sense are you saying that the chip types are physically interchangeable, provided they both have the same number of pins down each side? (-A and -D types do have the same number of pins down each side.) Or are you saying that even though each has the same number of pins, the logical mapping of the pins might be different? Unfortunately I can't locate a data sheet for the TI "A" types.
