Oppo 981 modds - any hints and ideas?

I received yesterday Oppo 981 as a present from a friend (I don't live in the States).
My intention is to try to use it as a CD redbook transport together with a reclocker and Altmann Attaction DAC.
The first impressions are so-so. As I've heard a number of decent, dedicated CD transports, I can't say I was impressed. However it has excellent resolution, detail and transparency that sounds promising to me. On the other hand, it's a bit artificial and (let's say) boring although it is not fatiguing as I've expected.
I tried to google and search here for some modding experiences however it seems most of the posts are related to other, older Oppo machines.
I'm wondering if anyone's using 981 as a CD transport and if there are particular modding steps to recommend. This would be my first modding adventure so maybe I'm asking too much.... :)
