Electrocompaniet preamp EC4.7 tweaking - anyone tried it?

Hi, I've had a great home demo of EC4.7 (a later version with gain switch on back) and I really liked so many things about it, except that I found it too rolled off in the highs due to rather dark sound character.
Could be that this issue is addressed in the new model 4.8 but it is too expensive (almost as twice as 4.7) so I am wondering if anyone heard of tweaking 4.7 for a bit more transparency and extension in treble.
Would be great to hear if there is anything to be done about it? I tried other cables but from what I had at home there was nothing to improve it (including pretty open Kimber PBJ) so I assume this has to solved with 4.7 itself.
I guess that also any tweaking experience related to earlier models such as 4.5 or 4.6 would be relevant. They have rather similar sonic character.
