The Hagerman Chime looks like a very good DAC with the qualities you mentioned, including USB playback and tube gain stage. Its more expensive than the Nixon though.Also at Hagerman's site is the Ripper which is primarily intended as an ADC for archiving vinyl but also works in reverse as a USB DAC, at a much lower price but without the faincy DAC module or tube gain stage.
There is also the basic HagUSB which looks like a neat solution for an office desktop system
I have not built the Chime (yet!) but I have done other Hagerman products and will vouch for excellent customer support and documentation, and an almost fool-proof DIY process. There is a forum over at Audio Circle
