I find it remarkable that most powered subwoofers (even true high end products) use enclosure-mount plate amplifiers instead of an outboard amplifier which can be placed on a vibration isolation device(s). A subwoofer enclosure generates such a notable amount of vibration that it seems odd to stick an amp onto a resonating panel for the sake of space saving, perhaps. Even an amp which is placed on a shelf or dedicated floor stand benefits greatly from additional vibration isolation. What if anything do better products use to isolate vibrations from a plate amp?
I plan to mod a stereo pair of KEF subs: Replace the stock plate amps with a Bryston 3B-ST and an outboard active x-over.
