I was grateful to discover a prior post listed below regarding the improvement to be gained simply by separating the three grey cables that are bundled together within each of two harnesses that carry SACD & RBCD data, clock, and power between Main and Audio Boards. If only all mods were this easy...http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hirez/messages/166048.html
Just wanted to add that while the above is good start, a great deal more performance is available if the separated cable harnesses are wrapped inside ERS shielded cloth. This is the best use of ERS cloth I've found to date.
The best sonics are obtained with the cable harnesses completely enclosed within the cloth except for the end connectors. Instead of using tape to separate the grey cables as per the above post, I made three stiff wire looms for each harness using strips of "Industrial Strength Velcro" (available in 2" x 4' strips at Home Depot). The separated cables are captured between the hook and loop fasteners, forming a 3/4" wide ribbon arrangement. The gluey back side of the velcro is used to retain the ERS cloth. For more closure, wrap the completed harness with electrical tape. The harnesses can arch high between the boards rather than travel along the bottom of the chassis as with the stock unit.
Big improvement in bass definition, air, and overall refinement. Much more musical and relaxing.
