Marantz CD-67SE Tweak Results and Other Questions

198.133.22.68

Hi Guys,

I don't normally hang-out @ the Tweakers Asylum (more of a Vinyl and Cable guy), but yesterday I read up some basic tweaks that can be performed on CD players and I decided to try the damping tweak out on my player (a Marantz CD-67SE).

Since I had some Dynamat left over from my turntable damping, I used that to dampen most of the chassis (inside and bottom), as well as the top cover. When I put the cover on and listened to the results, they were frightening. I just couldn't believe my ears, and neither could my wife (who is not into the audio thing). The bass was so much tighter and well defined. Even vocals and high frequencies were much crisper and we even concluded that the CD player now sounds almost as good as the turntable (Thorens TD-160).

I'm now waiting to try out other tweaks on the CDP, such as replacing the flat feet with conical ones, replacing the power cord with a heavy duty, shielded variety etc.

The one question I have is whether the damping tweak will be useful in components such as receivers, pre-amps, power amps etc. or whether it's only beneficial to a source ?

Answers to the above question and information on any other easy-to-perform tweaks help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Cyril
