for the AuriCapthis is a review for the famous Auricap AC Tweak:my execution: on my preamp, just past the fuse (which was past the power switch, an ideal situation) i wired a 2uf, 600v Auricap from + to - (nothing to do with ground). also, i wrapped the auricap heavily in PTFE plumbers tape (which doesn't burn worth a damn) in case of a fire hazard (i'm doubly safe here; the fuse should take care of any problems, but i'm double covered just in case).
thoughts:
the noise floor of the preamp is substantially reduced. i think my pre had more potential for AC noise (and thus improvement) than most---it has a couple of those Switched / Unswitched female AC plugs on the back (so other equipment can plug into it), which only increases the # of solder joints and potential for noise. that being said, the noise floor has dropped a couple of very noticable dbs.
in comparing my DAC > Pre > Amp vs DAC > Amp (passive volume controls on amp), i now find that the previous characteristic of the pre (slight treble tilt, whitish high freq---very minor but both present) has been changed more towards neutral. overall spectral balance has taken a decided step towards neutral.
staging / dynamics et al are just as good as before.
net net: for one hour of my time & some 20 bucks, this was an excellent tweak, which i will liklely employ in source equipment. highly recommended.
