When used in capacitors, or in service of audio gear where the signal's electric fields are present, a particular type of nonlinear behavior, called "dielectric absorption," causes a smearing of the sound. If dielectric absorption's behavior is nonlinear, why is every model for dielectric absorption a linear model rather than a nonlinear model?
