Re: Some tweaks about B&W DM 302 ???

I read an article of someone who changed the resistor to better quality ones and the change is quite noticable
i once had the speaker and i think it need a better bracing inside the cabinet
find a bar of strong quality wood,(but not too thick) / aluminium bar
and connect the bottom&top side&side, and screw it to the wall, and add some glue between the brace and the cabinet wall (I;m not sure if additional bracing is possible)
use quality stand which can be sand filled
i used atacama se24 and the improvement is dramatic

make additional shell from wood for the speaker with damping material(polyfill) inside the shell wall
dont make a bottom part, so the shell is going to hang on the speaker
easier but less effective way is to cut come quality wood, and glue it to felt/rubber sheet and stick it to the wall of the speaker using screw and glue

i think covering the back of the speaker with damping material ( polyfill/fiberglass ) and covering it with a non vibrating panel will help

change the internal pcb for the crossover, use a drilled pcb ( the one without the copper layer ) and put the crossover outside the cabinet( using separate box ) make sure that the inductor is well separated from the capacitor.

this definetely help !!!!! :
change the internal cabling, my recomendation is CAT-5 100mbps solid core network cable, cheap at $AU 1.00 per metre

use single run for the tweeter
and double run for the woofer

there are 4 colour and 4 stripped colour wires
use wires with the white strip for the negative

remove the screw part of the banana plug
the extra metal in the screw will add the capacitance which is seriously degrade sound quality

i suggest u to use cat5 cable throughout your system if your cable come free from the package or if your cable is the OFC multi stranded type of any kind and brand !!! try the CAT5 cable and be suprised at the improvement
biwire
use single run for the tweeter
and double run for the woofer
same rules apply, apply some solder to prevent corrotion and to improve contact with the banana plug
use the smallest possible banana plug, dont bother about gold connection if u can find one made from copper, solder the wire to the banana plug directly whenever possible, but don't use too much solder
( lots of metal mean lots of capacitance )
