As noted in previous answers, compatibility with your speakers is very important. I will assume that you have conventional speakers that are not sensitive enough to be used with low power singled ended amplifiers.
In that case, the best vintage tube amp I have ever used is a Harmon Kardon Citation II. It uses 6550C output tubes and puts out 60W/channel. Stock these sound quite good and if you are handy with a soldering iron, then you can make them even better for a small investment in new capacitors and diodes. Jim McShane has a very nice website/store where he details how to do this and sells all the parts.
I have one that I have upgraded and it sounds great. My brother-in-law also bought one on my recommendation and is very pleased with the sound without any modifications.
Citation IIs haven't been made for a very long time, but they do show up used occcasionally. You should be able to get one for between $700 and $900.
