Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I thought about posting in the headphones area, but I think this is more of a tube question.
Just unpacked it today and installed stock tubes. Sound is pretty good, but I noticed that when there is no sound playing there is a slight hum/ buzz sound. I tried removing the grounding pin on the plug which normally resolves hum issues on tube amps, but that had no effect. I found a few people saying that different tubes could solve the noise issue, but wanted to get opinions before I upgrade the tubes .vs exchanging the unit.
Lowering the headphone sensitivity via jumpers had no effect on the noise. The hum is reduced as I turn up the volume with no audio playing. At full volume it is close to quiet. The hum gets louder if I touch either of the input tubes and tapping or rubbing the input tubes can be heard in the headphones. Microphonic input tubes?
