Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
About 20 years ago I rolled perhaps 20 different 6V6s to find the best sounding in triode connected. The best was an early Sylvania 7C5 with the oval plate and no square shoulders.
The plate looks identical to the new Russian Tung Sol 6V6GT. Is that tube a super sounding 6V6?
I am building a clone of my amp for my son. Finding 8 matching 7C5 is not possible now. The amp is a variation of the Eric Kingsbury Music machine, but using four 6V6GT per channel for more wattage and an early USA manufactured Raytheon 6CG7 driver/splitter that is the best I ever heard including many 6SN7 tubes. (Did not try Tung Sol 6SN7 early round plate).
