Shuguang Treasure CV181-Z Vacuum Tube are nice...

I bought some to try in my PHI 200, and with the stock KT88's they seemed a nice improvement - - a little more musical info coming through + a slightly fuller harmonic tone, which worked better in my system. I was put onto these from an audio acquaintance who loved them in his VAC Statement 450 iQ's.

Then I tried some Gold Lion KT88's in place of the stock Shuguang KT88's, and those struck me as better in every parameter, along with a slightly fuller harmonic tone. The problem was that both the Gold Lions and the CV181-Z's moved the system too far in the richer, fuller direction, so one of them had to go! After some comparisons of combinations, the stock Shuguang 6SN7's with the Gold Lion KT88's proved to be my definite favorite combo.

Then one of the stock 6SN7's decided to go bad, and out of desperation I tried keeping one pair of the 6SN7's in the driver position and using one pair of the CV181-Z's in the input position. Wow! That was a distinct improvement!

Bottom line, the CV181-Z's are a very worthy alternative, and I guess it pays to try things out to find the best mix for you and your system. ("Hey Nineteen" is sounding just so great right now!)
