I think it used to be the convention. In a time when the Internet was a bit gentler place it was true, but nowadays not so much. Used to be posting on the net meant using a desktop or laptop. Today people can post from their refrigerator door. With so many on-the-fly means of access, I've gotten used to it looking how it looks and try focus more on what it says.
