RE: What industry used this hunk of American iron oscillator?

That is a very stable audio oscillator for the time used in electronic engineering labs for design and in radio communications labs mostly for testing phase shift in RC components.They might change the roll off in an AM modulator and they would want to see how stable it would be over time and you didn't want to add the instability factor from the generator into the equation so that's why they needed something super stable for the day.The military used these as well I would guess in communications.
