A few inmates have asked me how I capture these images.Well....these are being taken with a Canon SX30IS 16 mp camera.
I always shoot tubes in Macro, manual mode, with the aperture closed all the way, and very long exposures (on a timer)...under low and bright light within the same exposure. I have a lightthat I dodge, 3' above and to the side of the stage. There's another light above and behind me that I block or partially allow by with my body. I also use a mini-Mag light directly on the tube, changing direction and intensity as needed...that along with my custom made dodging instrument hovering over the shot to play with the light and where it's striking and how long. It's a three handed operation.
Most of the blues are coming from my photography stage. I also use a silver/gray metallic background which reflects light when I sweep it during the exposure.
The best shots seem to be a backlit tube with reflected light from the stage bottom, back, and sides, and the elements inside the tube producing their own colors and reflections.
The modifications I made to the photos were saturation, brightness and contrast....and the removal of the occasional PIA white digital dot.
There was no smearing, blending, cloning, coloring, sharpening etc., performed.
njoi....and try your own. It's fun. Let's see some others!!
