RE: Sylvania bad boy 6sn7 vs RCA

Buyer beware!
These days, many so called "tube dealers" have taken to calling any Sylvania 6sn7 with three hole plates (even GTAs and GTBs with top getters) or any tall glass GT with a bottom getter (even if the plates have only two holes) "Badboys". Only the tubes shown on the left in Sondek's picture are real "Badboys". That said, the tubes on the right, the standard Sylvania 6sn7GT bottom getter is a pretty good tube, just not as good as the badboys.
To be a "Badboy" a tube must have:
Three hole black T-plates.
Cooper grid posts and copper wiring.
Shiny top and bottom mica with the top mica having three triangular points touching the glass.
Tall bottle with square bottom getter.
That said, the badboys (if real) are better than any RCA in my opinion. If this is your first 6sn7 roll, I would go with Sylvania. Try and find a early green label Sylvania 6sn7GT bottom getter or GTA top getter. These should cost less than $100 for a pair. Don't overpay for fake badboys.
Enjoy the roll!
