It sounds like you're in a little bit of a hole, here ... and you know what they say: stop digging. Figure out precisely what the problem is before trying to solve it. Are your speakers (which have been called "big, spacious, tonally neutral, with impressive dynamics") in an "awkward phase" being just 50-75 hours young? If you have any kind of right-of-return on these, then I'd contact your dealer immediately -- put him on notice. If they're yours to have and to hold, then I'd finish the getting-acquainted process before spending even more money. Be patient?
And when the time comes, consider limiting your preamp choices to those that you can hear in your own system in your own room first. Good tube equipment is not (necessarily) "warm and comfortable" -- especially in the problem-solving sense. And the overly-warm sonic signature that we associate with certain vintage tube gear is not a solution; it's another (different) problem. This is to say that I don't think you're going to solve one problem with another.
