I also tested my 10/VT-25/10Y tubes (all Sylvania) in preamp, and preferred older 10s .... but 801/801a/VT-62 -for me- likeable.
At low levels (for example preamp) I use graphite anode 801 (now their price is horrible), for driver (mostly as cathode follower) VT-25/10Y and for power tube 801a.
I love of "sound" of thoriated tungsten tubes, so my -half done- new amp is 841-10Y-801a PSE.
