I have quite a few 10s in my collection. It is a useful tube because at lower power it can be used in filament bias, which eliminates the cathode bypass cap. So I did once use it in preamps. It sounds more dynamic than a 26 - fuller sound. I went over to using 4P1Ls because they sound pretty much as good and they are so much cheaper I can keep the 10s as investments.
I didn't compare different types. Some are oxide rather than thoriated - that makes a difference to the sound. The thoriated ones looked like most were made in the same factory.
