Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Okay, I'm enjoying a recently acquired Conrad-Johnson CAV-50 control/integrated amplifier. Part of my effort to simplify my audio life while still having a great music listening experience. So far, so good.
I haven't lived with the EL34/6CA7/KT77 for any notable amount of time before, so I'm exploring. I have an excellent set of Mullard XF1s (same date codes, same measurements out of my testers, super low hours, Blackburn, Dynaco silkscreening; they have dual o getters) from my father's Dynaco ST-70 he built new in the early 1960s and I've used for short periods myself.
After having these sit around for years and years, I was excited finally to give them a listen. I remove the Sovtek EL34Bs, go to plug in the Mullards and the tube bases won't fit through the cut outs in the sheet metal around the tube sockets! Whazzup with that?!
I could possibly use some socket savers as extensions. This likely also means that I wouldn't be able to directly plug in some large base 6CA7s?
Hmmm?
