Thanks - both of your assessments correspond with mine. I think those two Sylvania 5751 (black and gray) are far superior to any of the other 5751 and 12ax7 tubes that I tried. The black plates (which I am using now) are more clear, with the gray more warm. Different, but relatively small difference when compared to the competition.
A new application I have is for a quad of 6201. Given my experience with the 5751, my leaning was toward the black triple mica, But there are variations between tube types, so the characteristics of the black plate on the 5751 doesn't necessarily track to the 6201. That is why I am interested in what others have experienced. Getting a couple of quads to test things out could get a bit dear.
