What you say is very true, but, the invention of the 6BM8/ECL82, was to save money on construction by having 2 tubes in one envelope. If I was doing this project from scratch, it would be much easier to just get the 6bm8 and be done with it.
There is a consideration that spreading the circuit out by separating the 6bm8 into its 2 tubes will be easier to accommodate when placing components on the chassis. I would also appreciate the aesthetics of having the tubes making a pleasing layout from 5751 centered, to 6v6 to 6550 at the end. It is what DIY is all about. Happy Holidays, Dak
