TK's comment is probably spot on. Not only re-inking but sometimes ink color variations are common throughout different runs.

Best way to get an answer is if you can post a pic/link to the tubes in question, and any other information the seller is posting, like date codes, etc.

Then the inmates can look at the inner workings, like shape of the holes, etc., and actually have something to work with.
