The JJ 12AU syrupy? In my experience, no, not at all. Overall sound is pretty neutral I think. Actually, I found the Gold Lion to be darker sounding than either of the JJ's in my old CAT SL1. I found the JJ ECC802s to have a more refined sound than JJ's 12AU in the CAT. The 802s is a good tube and no reliability issues. I still use them from time to time in my PrimaLuna CD and they sound just as nice in that application.
