RE: Bias on new Yaqin MS-30L - how often to check?

For my EICO HF89 the manual recommended checking the bias for the new amp after the initial adjustment, check and adjust at 10 minutes, then 1/2 hour, and 2 hours. At that point it should be checked every 2 weeks to a month.
I don't know what your experience is with tube amps but I have a friend who got rid of a Fisher SA 300 because he thought it did not hold bias and was always adjusting it. Turns out when he turned it on he would check the bias and of course it was different than when he last set it, after the amp had warmed up several hours. So, during the listening session he would adjust the bias several times. And then repeat the process the next time he turned on the amp. Well this is not how to set the bias because from the time you turn on the amp for about an hour the voltages will change as the amp warms up, unless your amp is equipped with voltage regulation. LSS, after the initial bias adjustment be sure to check the bias voltage after the same approximate playing time as when you last set the bias. And if your wall voltage varies considerably during the day that variation will also affect your bias voltages.
About EL34; Chinese tubes are notoriously unreliable but getting better, unless, you get the special quality very expensive ones. So, if you use your amp a lot it would be wise to have a back up set. Or you could upgrade to some better quality and save the stock tubes for back up duty. Personally, I prefer vintage Siemens which are quite expensive new and available as used. I find them very reliable and sounding almost as good, 97% of the Mullards. cheers, Dak
