Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
A friend gave me what he thought was 18 untested type 26 Triode tubes. After testing them all on my Simpson Tube tester, I found 5 that tested as dead..
I decided to test the dead tubes for continuity, I found 3 new looking tubes with clean pins had continuity. One of the 3 had a paper label that was dated 1936.
I then measured the ohms of the filaments each had about 6.2 ohms.....
When I measured the ohms of known Type 26's each read about 3.1 ohms.
.. On closer inspection of the paper labeled Tube written on it was a #12A..... Also after cleaning the tube I could make out an etched badge with the number "12A" inside.
My Simpson Tube tester has setting for a 12A and all 3 tubes test very good.......
.......So what is a "Type 12A" .... and does it have any Audio use ?/
Thanks
Willie
