RE: Power Tube Failure

Sorry for my delayed reply, it's been a busy week at work. Your post is very detailed, and I think I can bring a pipe cleaner to the sockets.

One more question if I may: by searching the archives, I found the suggestion that before inserting anything into the sockets to clean them, one should drain the capacitors by connecting a resistor between the positive pin and ground. Is that really necessary? I hope I can figure out that the positive pin in a KT88 socket is 3 for the anode, and I know where the ground plug on my amp chassis is. But I'm uncomfortable wiring anything between them, as I have no expertise with circuitry.
