RE: Power Tube Failure

Could be the tube, but more likely it is the socket. The cheap plastic chinese sockets don't last forever even if you are not a tube roller. The ceramic ones are not much better. A big problem with them is the quality of the metal in the socket has almost zero spring to them, the first time you put a tube in the socket it spreads the socket apart and since the tolerance of the holes is poor just exacerbates the problem. The tube then can lose contact with the bias voltage and simply die. Purple flashes are the tube arching, it is done.

If you have the ability, try re-tensioning the socket. If not, see if you can fine someone locally to replace the sockets. This is not easy in your amp as the sockets are most likely mounted to the top side of a circuit board. The amp needs to be almost completely disassembled.

Your two old matched pairs are fine as the amp has adjustable bias. You can get a new quad of tubes if you would like, not mandatory.
