Not too long ago I posted on just this subject. The math says that a 5751 or 12AT7 won't affect the gain of that circuit much at all - it may not even be noticeable.
But a 12AY7/6072 CAN be used, and it does reduce the gain of that circuit. Eli is correct in reminding us that if there is an overall NFB loop it is the feedback resistors that determine the gain of the entire unit. So whether the 12AY7 would solve your problem and be sonically acceptable to you is not clear. But it is certainly something you can try.
