Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

My recently completed Croft S2 Clone amp (PPP el84) with 12AX7 input and 12AX7 splitter tubes has way too much gain. I barely have to crack the volume control on my preamp to get a big difference in output. I am trying to reduce the sensitivity of the input section and wonder if I can use the 12ay7 (amplification factor 44) in place of the ax7? I already tried 5751 which helped but still way too sensitive. TYVM, Dak
