RE: I don't understand the logic.

Well FL I suspect that CB knows far more about electronics than I do so could give a more complete answer.

However as an electronics "dummy" my logic is: A) if the HF meter is adequate in Manley's estimation to furnish one with the amps then it should be good enough for me, and B) picking the right tool for the job can relate to the extent of use that tool may be subject to. For mechanical needs I have Craftsman tools. I have no doubt that Snap On are better. But I'm an occasional shade tree mechanic, not a professional, so spending the extra $ would not benefit me.

With this line of thinking I suspect most any new multi-meter is up to the job of reading 300 mA within maybe a couple percent.

As to what DVM I use I also have a more expensive RatShack multi-meter in my tool box (not a Fluke) but I keep the HF meter in a closet close to the amps for convenience and that is what I use to set bias. I don't know enough about electronics to have reason to measure anode plate voltage and I suspect the OP may not either.
