Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

RE: These things any good?

It truly believe that the answer to your question depends on the actual demands placed on the tubes by the circuit.

I found these same Tung-Sol 6SN7 re-issues to sound great in my Aikido DIY Preamp, but the same tubes in my Atmasphere M60 just buzzed out loud, unusable.

Took them over to my friends house who also owns a pair of M60's, the same buzz came through the speakers.

So I sold all eight of them for $5.00 each to a very happy Cary SLP-05 Owner, he got eight of these for $40 while I paid $15 each. He reported back no issues, and great sound.

In my particular case the HK leakage of these brand new tubes was not good enough for my M60 amps that require much better HK leakage that these can typically deliver.

I also had used Electro-Harmonix 6SN7 in my M60's with the same result, buzz.

Now.. if I purchased 100 pieces and rolled them through, I likely would find eight that worked in my M60's.

Yet I have had great results with current production 6SN7 in other equipment I own and use so am grateful that they are still a large variety to choose from.

My 10 cents worth of direct experiences with these tubes.
