RE: How good are the new kt-77 tubes

It's generally agreed that top-notch new production tubes and a select few from certain brands/manufacturers compare VERY well to old stock, especially power tubes.

I haven't enough experience with the KT66 and KT88 to comment yet, but the Gold Lion KT77 is WICKED. The sonics are awesome. I found it has the tonal qualities of an EL34, but in a beam power tube format. I has a nice midrange, but it's a little bit more precise/less compressed than EL34. I found them as warm and inviting as an EL34, but with the precision and dynamics resembling that of a 6L6GC. Depending on the amp, it can also provide more power than a standard EL34. Especially in guitar heads, they have blown most EL34's out of the water. I've played with old stock as well as new stock tubes, and nothing really compares to the KT77. I wouldn't say its the go-to-be-all-end-all tube, but it's pretty darn close.

At the price of a KT77, it seems a little steep, but I wouldn't fret. These tubes are BUILT LIKE TANKS and will outlast others by quite a margin. I've taken the KT77 to its upper limits AND IT SURVIVES. The new production Gold Lion KT77 spec sheet does not lie! No other tubes except the Gold Lions (in my experience), can take their rated punishment. So if you're concerned, they really do take the 650V/600V, 30W at the plate, 6W at the screen.

May your tubes be lively, warm, and long-lasting. Holy be thy heater.
