I kinda agree with you but there are some problems with that. Due to the sad state of affairs with high end audio shops in today's market I was not able to do an audition with the PL power amp in my home system before the purchase. In addition the local shop here had an integrated PL and the sales person convinced me that the preamp section did not make a difference in sound for the PL. And they had no other PL in stock. I relied on many reputable reviews, not one of them mentioned to make sure to match and swap out all components in order to make the PL sound great.
While waiting on the Mullards 12ax7 to arrive, I have made some adjustments. Added back in Cal Audiolabs Icon MkII cd player, Schiit Sys passive preamp, Straight Wire interconnects. On the Mac Mini/DragonFly changed from Audirvana to JRiver. I'm glad to say that these have made some very positive changes to the sound quality.
