I was going to suggest you give it more break-in time, but someone else already has. It may take as much as 200 - 300 hours of listening for things to fully run-in. Also, are you running in triode or ultra mode? Try the triode mode. The Monitor Audios may not be a real good match to the PL. 90db sensitivity, which is not that bad, but the 4 ohm impedance could be an issue. I cannot recall whether or not the D5 has 4 ohm taps on it, but you may want to check into that. A really nice combo of small tubes that sounds good on a friends D5 is the JJ 5751 (12ax7) and the RFT 12au7.
