Sound of EL-84 tubes

I have (among others) an Eico HF-81 integrated amplifier which was heavily restored by the seller (luckily, the iron is original).

All tubes are original (mostly vintage Mullard). At times, it sounds edgy - good and low bass, dark midrange but somewhat edgy (or, as some people wrote here, "etchy" highs). The soundstage is somewhat confined within the speakers.

Is this edginess characteristic of EL-84 tubes? Unfortunately, I don't have a tube tester to measure them and don't have replacement EL-84 tubes.

Perhaps, I should order some NOS Valvo or Siemens EL-84 tubes from a reputable dealer to try with the Eico?
